Go Viral! | Using Target Language Social Media with Novice and Intermediate Learners
One Hour Session for World Language Teachers
A 2023 Gallup Poll found teenagers spend an average of 4.8 hours per day on social media. Let's harness that passion for world language instruction! This session will use target language social media as a basis for highly engaging and easy to replicate activities in all four language domains. Participants will learn how to find appropriate social media resources (without living online) and how social media can entice novice and intermediate learners to take their learning beyond the classroom. Go viral in your school and and become a #WorldLanguageInfluencer!
In this session participants will:
Look at data regarding teens’ current social media use and most popular platforms
Participate in sample social-media-inspired classroom activities for reading, writing, listening, and speaking
Discuss techniques to seamlessly incorporate social media in class and pitfalls to avoid
Learn to quickly search for appropriate target language social media, and access libraries of vetted resources in French, Spanish, and English.
In-Person or Virtual Formats Available

“I personally love to use social media and have used it with my elementary students. I loved this training, Lisa was FANTASTIC and so generous to share her documents and her own resources’ lists. I strongly recommend to have a Part 2 of this amazing training, giving us the opportunity to see students’ work and teachers sharing lessons and ideas.”
“It was great. One of the best workshops I have taken online!”
“I can use the various strategies in a number of ways. Lisa had dozens of great ideas you can implement the next day.”
“ I am planning to add more of the activities shared by Lisa for next school year. I find them not only original and highly motivating, but also rich in content and strategies for our students.”
