One-Hour Session for French Teachers and for Social Studies Teachers

Do you want to teach la francophonie, but aren’t sure how? Do you hesitate to teach about countries you’ve never been to? Do you struggle to find positive, engaging Africa-themed resources that will challenge students’ preconceptions of this fascinating region? Come learn about francophone Africa with a French teacher who spent 2 years at Rain Forest International School in Yaoundé, Cameroon and returned to North Carolina with a passion for incorporating this region in her classes. You will leave this session with a framework for analyzing culture and with hands-on, classroom tested activities that are ready to integrate in your existing curriculum. Discover ways to engage your students in Cameroon and other francophone African countries!

In this session participants will:

  • Discuss how to find engaging Africa-themed videos

  • Explore examples of before, during, and after-viewing discussion questions to lead students in meaningful cultural analysis

  • Practice techniques to conduct cultural analysis in the target language with novice learners

  • Leave with classroom-tested, hands-on activities, videos, and cultural resources to integrate Africa at all levels of instruction
